No new AI tools to sign up for this week — but that means the best move is to get more out of the AI you already own.

Accountants — Are you still doing client reconciliations by hand with Copilot sat idle?

If your firm pays for Microsoft 365, Copilot in Excel can sense-check a trial balance against last month's numbers in under a minute. Most accountants have the licence but haven't opened the pane. This week, pull one client's reconciliation, paste last month's file as context, and ask Copilot: "What changed by more than 5%?" Then you decide what matters — the robot surfaces the noise, you find the signal.

Trades — How many after-hours calls are you still missing?

Your phone rings at 7 pm with a leaking boiler. You're on another job. An AI receptionist (try Voiceflow or Synthflow) picks up, asks the right questions, sends you a structured voicemail transcript, and books a slot in your calendar. Setup takes an hour this week, and it answers every call you miss. Your customers get a response in seconds, not hours.

Retail & Hospitality — Are your delivery menu descriptions still costing you orders?

ChatGPT can rewrite your entire menu for Uber Eats and Deliveroo in one session. Tell it your vibe ("independent pizza shop, high-quality ingredients, family-run") and paste in your current item names and prices. Ask for descriptions under 100 characters that mention a key ingredient and a benefit. Test three new versions on your best-sellers this week. You'll see if clearer copy moves the needle.

Agencies — When's the last time you turned a client call recording into a brief?

Record your next client meeting—with permission— and drop the transcript into Claude or ChatGPT. Say: "Summarise the project scope, key deliverables, budget constraints, and three things the client wants that they didn't say directly." You get a draft brief in five minutes. The client sees a document that sounds like them. That's the difference between a retained agency and a pitch you lose.

Professional Services — Are you still redlining contracts line by line?

If you use Microsoft 365, Copilot for Word can compare a new supplier contract against your standard terms and flag deviations — indemnity caps, liability limits, termination clauses — in one click. It doesn't replace the partner's review. It replaces the first read-through. That's 30 minutes per document you give back to your fee-earning work.

Manufacturing & Wholesale — Could ChatGPT shorten your supplier negotiation cycle?

Next time you need to push back on a price increase, write a one-paragraph brief of your position and ask ChatGPT: "Draft a polite but firm email pushing back on a 12% price rise on [component X]. We've been a customer for 5 years, and the market has softened. Include an alternative: a smaller increase with a volume commitment." You get a draft you can edit in two minutes instead of staring at a blank screen for twenty.

Money on the table this week

No major funding rounds or new grant windows opened this week for general SMBs. The Fisheries and Seafood Scheme is still open for seafood businesses in England, but for everyone else, the open programmes are unchanged: Help to Grow: Digital vouchers (up to £5,000 off approved software), Innovate UK Smart Grants for future rounds, and R&D Tax Credits for any business that has tried to build or adapt a tool — including AI side‑projects. If your team spent time this year trying a new AI process, that counts. Ask your accountant before year-end.

Bottom line

No new AI tool this week is actually the good news: it means the tools you already pay for — ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini — are the ones that will move your business. Pick one repetitive task, spend 15 minutes setting up a prompt, and use it three times this week. That's where the value lives, not in the next model launch.
